Jason's First Patient

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of being Jason's first real patient (other than practicing on fellow classmates) I was his very first! I got to spend the afternoon with him at the OSU Dental Clinic- I can't tell you how cool of an experience this was for me. Very sentimental:)

As long as I have known Jason he always talked about being a dentist. Most people know Jason as a redneck who loves to have fun in the outdoors. Seriously, hunting season is like Christmas for him and I watch my big, strong, man turn into a 12 year old boy just giddy with excitement every year. Sounds silly but it's something I love about him- he truly has a real passion for his passions! Knowing this about him a lot of people were definitely surprised to find out his dream of being a dentist. Believe me I thank my lucky stars everyday that he chose this career path. I literally shudder at the thought of what would have happened had this not been the case. Words like Hunting Guide and Taxidermist flash through my mind as I picture us living in far off remote Alaska with me having to cook his daily kill for dinner each night. I love my redneck, but lets face it I am not cut out for that kinda of life 24/7.
Yup I will take dentist any day!
But if you really know Jason you know how he loves to work with his hands, how much of a perfectionist he is, how creative he is, how kind he is towards others, and how smart he is! Then you understand why being a dentist fits him like a glove.

Being a full time student has also always been a part of our life. I have seen Jason stress and agonize over countless tests, the DAT, applications, and the grueling first 2 years of dental school- last semester having over 30 credit hours alone. This man of mine has been through a lot,  but he always pulls it off  and does so well!  Seeing him at the clinic shed a whole new light for me about dental school and my thoughts on our future. You see, I have only ever seen him as "Jason the student". I finally got to see my husband living his dream. It just all became so real. I literally got a jolt of excitement through my chest as I watched him put on his loops and gloves, dressed like a real professional! He then did a full exam on me asking questions about my medical history and oral health. Four hours later (yes four!) we were done with the cleaning. I must say it was the best cleaning I have ever had!

Here we are at the clinic. Can I just say how cute my dentist is?

My face looks so funny here it makes me laugh. I promise there was no laughing gas involved. I kept taking pictures so I could see what he was doing!

The future Dr. Hyde! I spy a double chin.

I am so grateful to be married to such a hard working man!

**Just to clarify I would have married Jason no matter what his profession. With all of his good qualities he would have succeeded in life no matter what he choose to do! But I'll say it again- I'll take dentist over taxidermist any day! Can you really blame me?

What a cute patient you make Rachel! Can't wait to have Dr. Hyde as my dentist too! Seriously just don't let him hang any dead animals on the walls of his office. We miss you guys down here!
